University of Alabama Tuscaloosa RN-MSN
I know it's a little late to reply to your post, but I wanted to in case it helps anyone else. I'm currently an ASN RN enrolled at UA in the RN to BSN Distance Learning Program. I am finishing up my first semester of 3 with them to complete my BSN. Obviously, I can't speak to the MSN portion of the program, but I have had a great experience so far. I am working on my clinical placement for the next two semesters at the moment, so that might change things a little. The college has been extremely helpful. The instructors have been wonderful, great communication, and very understanding about scheduling issues. I'm noticing, which is not unusual, that the BSN content is more theory, informatics, and exploration of job role in this first semester. As it goes on, I know leadership will be covered and more public health role nursing. I'm happy I chose UA so far!

Aquinas College Nursing Program Fall 2013
Hey tdabney427, I just realized you posted. Hadn't been on in a while since I've been in school! I think my Kaplan entrance score was in the 80's and my GPA wasn't considered the same since I did their re-start program. The re-start program allows you to take one full time semester and they use that GPA to determine your acceptance. I have a pretty good GPA though. I think as long as you're in the 3.2 - 3.5 range you have a great chance - put that's just my personal opinion. I'm about to graduate in May. I had heard their pass rate had dropped, but I also heard it had come back up. So hard to know. I can definitely let y'all know if I pass the NCLEX though! Will be here in NO TIME! Good luck :)

Job while in Nursing school help?
Any luck??? I work at St. Thomas and I know my department is hiring PRN PCTs and NE. Or they were a few weeks ago. It's not always ideal because you don't get many hours while the census is down, but lots of departments are looking for PRN help. Maybe you should go into the recruiting office and have a recruiter sit down with you? I'd email them first and set up an appointment. The gal I know if is named Belinda - she's really nice and shoots straight. I hope you can find some work!

Allergic to Foam/Gloves/Soap?!
Thanks for all the replies!!! I think it's the gloves! My boss has ordered me some clear vinyl gloves to use instead if the powder free latex free purple nitrile gloves. I really hope it helps. My rash starts off as little dots and then gets bigger, and dries and cracks. It almost ends up looking like a burn. I hope I'm not allergic to anything else. Sounds awful about the hives while bagging a patient! I feel like this rash looks bad to my patients as well...I have been wearing gloves for simple things just to cover it while with a patient. Again, thanks everyone!!!

Allergic to Foam/Gloves/Soap?!
Hey guys! I am allergic to some or all of our hand supplies at the hospital where I work. I first thought it was the foam. Stopped using it and developed the same rash. Now I am thinking I am either allergic to the gloves and or the soap...or god forbid ALL of it! It's becoming more painful too - started out just annoying and now it's truly bothersome... Anyone else have experience with this? Here are the products we have: Latex-free nitrile gloves Triclosan Soap - Steris or similar Steris Alcare Plus 62% Ethyl Alcohol foam Thanks for any suggestions and help you guys may have! Sarah

Aquinas College Nursing Program Fall 2013
That means a lot!!!! What was the GPA and kaplan score last year??? I have been busy training as a PCT...sigh!!! I actually can't wait to get back into school and start working towards my RN...my trainers have been cruddy this last week!!!! I applied to NSCC's program last year but didn't realize I still had some grade hanging on from nearly 10 years ago that brought my GPA down. I did Aquinas' restart program and did great! So I'm hoping it all falls in line!!!! Man...1.5 months to wait!!!

Washing hands
I just finished a PCT program and we were taught that way too! Had to be a clean, dry portion of the first paper towel used to dry your hands or a second clean, dry paper towel. You can get free CNA handbooks online that have the most up to date skills policies. Most of them apply directly to LTC, but they are helpful in any setting to keep up with basics like feeding, handwashing, bathing, ambulation, turning, ROM, etc. . .

Stuck at a potential crossroads
I agree with Keep_Calm - you have to do what is best for you! Honesty is a good policy too. Having been a hiring manager (not for nursing, but for a marketing company) for years, I always appreciate someone who is honest and just lets me know their situation and why they withdraw their acceptance. The sooner the better too, so they can fill the spot they may be holding for you. It also helps Hospital A know that there are better offers out there. If they hear that enough, they may strive to change a thing or two. Congratulations on the offers!! I hope you figure out what is best for you. :)

Aquinas College Nursing Program Fall 2013
Hello there!! Has anyone here applied for Aquinas College's Nursing Program for Fall 2013? Does anyone know how long it takes to hear back? I am a current student there, so I am hoping current students would hear back first? Also, what is considered a good Kaplan Entrance Exam score? I think my application is really good, but I also don't want any surprises!! Any information would be awesome! :) Thanks! Sarah
