Baptist Memorial Memphis?????

U.S.A. Tennessee

Hell everyone. I read an old thread about this facility AFTER speaking with a recruiter today. I was just wondering if the ratios were still terrible at this facility?? I live in Florida, but am moving to TN after graduation, so far Baptist is on the top of my list from what I was told. Please fill me in on any info you may have. Thanks sooo much. Oh here's what I was told:

22.55/hr base

4.50 extra 3-11

4.00 extra 11-7

4.50 extra on weekends

250/month with NO contract or obligation to repay towards my student loans for a max of 9,000.00.

Relocation assistance

401K 1:2 (for every dollar I give they give 2)

1yr long internship before being "thrown to the wolves" on my own. All of the above sound GREAT to me, but if their ratios are 10+ to one RN- that's all I need to know to turn it down. Thanks again!!

My friend worked at Baptist when she first moved to the memphis area (before she knew any better). a year ago. To answer your question yes Baptist still has high patient ratios. My friend worked ICU stepdown at the time and she told me one day a nurse was responisble for 20 patients at one time! If I was you I would shoot for a job at any methodist hospital they offer the same pay, relocation, loan repayment etc.

Good Luck

Have you asked the recruiter? I don't know, but it seems like a valid question, even for a new nurse. Let us know.

I did a rotation there, and from what I saw the nurses were overworked and understaffed. They generally seemed unhappy, but there's always an advocate for both sides of the story. I'd just be upfront with the recruiter and ask. Or maybe ask to speak with some nurses/managers to see what it's like.

I forgot--there are a lot of hospitals in the Memphis area, and they all offer pretty much variations on the same theme. If you are thinking of moving here, look into other options as wel.. Good luck!

I had a friend who worked there prior to graduation and she told me she would not stay at Baptist after becoming an RN. She is now working at Methodist Germantown. I also met a girl at orientation who had come from Baptist and said she didn't like it at all. I've never heard anything to make me want to go there, but then again, as the previous poster stated, there are always two sides to every story.

I would not work on the floor at Baptist. The staffing ratios are horrible. ICU on the other hand is not too bad. Baptist has great benefits and pay but you will earn every dollar.

I'm a Baptist student. From what I see every rotation, the ratio has been about 6-10 patients to 1 nurse. But I also want to add that these were on the floors where students worked too. So the nurses weren't really stressed because the students actually cared for half of their patients.

Also I have worked at Methodist for 7 years, and our nurses DO NOT make as much as Baptist nurses. Starting pay was around 18.00 last time I checked.
