Austin Peay nursing or a better school?

U.S.A. Tennessee

I am planning on applying to the APSU SON. Has anyone been through the nursing program at apsu? If so what are the strengths and weeknesses of the program? Do you know of any other nursing schools in the area that are better or is apsu pretty good? I live an equal distance from Clarksville and Nashville. So If you know of a better one in nashville i'd love to hear about it. Thanks!

I cant speak for other SON in the area but I can tell you a it about APSU. I am currently in my 3rd semester in the SON. I believe this fall semester there is a new no fail policy for us so if you fail 1 class your gone, prior to this you could fail 1 class but if you failed 2 you were out. It seems to be a demanding program & I've sent many nights up till midnight or close to it working on clinical paperwork. I have only run into 1 professor that I wasn't very wild about & that was more in the lecture aspect than as a clinical instructor. Most of the professors are willing to help you but you have to be willing to initiate it. They have a nice simulation lab with the SIM's dummies with role playing scenarios about pts. May be a plus to you depending on how you feel about that. There aren't alot of nursing tutors past yout first semester but I think that's because it takes so much time & work that as students go through they have less time to tutor. I think that if I can just survive the next 1.5 years that it will all be worth it but the program definitely tests your resolve & your study skills.

hi i am planning on applying to apsu SON i was just reading this and wondering how yall are doing as far as the SON n etc look forward to hearing back soon:):)

I don't know about anyone else, but I just graduated form the program May 6, 2011. I did fail one class but re-took it & passed without a problem. Good luck with finding a program it;s hard work but worth it in the end.

Excellent school, I have precepted nothing but *outstanding* students over the years. Best of luck!
