Reading and English section super hard????

I got 80-85% on both online practice tests on reading and English section first try. Wasn't worried at all....should be easy on the real test. English has always been my strongest weakness so the two sections are my only main focus.

Nope, took the real test and I was shocked at how difficult the reading & English section was. They asked you questions that weren't even provided in the prompt. I can't give specific example since it's against the rules but some questions were seriously irrelevant. Like one prompt was a guide telling you how to use an item and the question asked "which state would you not use this item in?". The questions that were relevant had choices that were so similar it was almost impossible for me to pick one. English was mostly choose the best sentence and I bomb those all the time because they all sound good to me.

Needless to say I got a much lower score than what I got on practice tests. Mind was blown when I received grade. I'm taking this again next month so I NEED help on how I can improve because ATI study guide is WAY TOO EASY. I don't want to bump into the same questions again next month.

I don't know what else to do :'( Got any tips/suggestions?????

The McGraw Hill book/iPhone app has better questions for English and reading.

i'm sorry to hear that it was difficult for you. My best tip is to just simply say the words out loud (not literally "out-loud") but audible enough to hear in your mind, and see what sounds right. Go with your gut instinct for the English section.

Hmmm.... English/grammar is my strong suit so I did really well on that. Math on the other hand....meh. :sniff: For English, sentence structure may trip you up, so read everything you can get your hands on. Reading is the best possible thing you can do to reinforce proper sentence structure and grammar. Back to your example you gave above..... none of the questions on the TEAS are irrelevant or provide answer choices that are irrelevant. There were key words or phrases that you may not have picked up on. Read the problem first, and ask yourself, "What is this question asking?" Then when you know what it is asking, read the problem again. Most likely the correct answer will be clear to you. Good luck next go round!

Haha i'm the opposite, I love math because math is straight forward but fail miserably at English no matter what I do. Unfortunately English is 50% of the grade and it's always the most important on any standardize test. =(

Not for the location question but whatever just hope I don't get the same question next test. Thanks for advice
