Practice test results ..?

Nursing Students TEAS

Hey everyone! Just looking for some insight .. I have read that people who had taken the practice tests online ended up a lot of times scoring slightly higher on the real test. Does this apply to the practice test in the back of the ATI book too?

I guess I just really want to know how comparable the practice test in the manual is to the real test.

In my opinion, the tests in the back of the book are good practice but the online practice tests really show you how they format and want you to think on the real test.

Okay. I'm really debating on buying the online practice test. I did pretty well on the first practice exam in the book.

Specializes in GYN, Urology, Robotics.

I think there isn't a "one-sized fits all approach" for everyone, but diversifying the way you study can't hurt. The practice tests in the API books are great, but I think it's also helpful to take online tests since you'll be exposed to different questions and will get more of a feel for what taking the online test is like. Personally, I tend to study better (and probably longer) on online sites because it's a little more interactive and a little less boring. Hope that helps. Good luck on your TEAS!

For me, I thought I was ready until I took the online practice tests. These are much more difficult in my opinion. This turned out to be a good thing because I really worked on my weak areas after taking the online tests. In the end, it seemed like the online tests pushed me more towards overpreparing for the TEAS.

Let me make this perfectly clear, the book exam is nothing like the actual test - nothing.

You absolutely need to buy the online practice tests as they are closer and much more similar in difficulty to the actual test. The test in the book are so easy compared to the real test.

I disagree, but that is ok. I think everything you need to do well is in the ATI Study Manual. I think many people do not use the study guide "correctly". For example, many take the sample tests repeatedly so of course it gets easier! I found the online exams more difficult and if you search around on allnurses you will see that I think most people agree with me. I scored a 69% TWICE on the online exam, but scored a ~96% in science on the actual exam. Most posts that I have read have agreed- the online test is harder than both the ATI study guide and the actual test.

Overall, Andrea42905 said it best. Use all the resources at your disposal. I used the ATI study manual, McGraw-Hill, Khans Academy, free online sources, and the ATI online tests.

mgrenwic,

Then why did you say, "Don't worry to much, the online practice test were much more difficult that the actual test."????

You said this HERE:

You scored 99th percentile on the test and yet look at your sentence grammar:

"The test in the book are so easy compared to the real test."

"test" is singular which does not match the verb "are". It should read either:

"The test in the book is so easy compared to the real test." OR

"The tests in the book are so easy compared to the real test."

And when you wrote, "Don't worry to much, the online practice test were much more difficult that the actual test." in the other thread it should be written:

"Don't worry too much, ..."

Sorry if it seems I am busting your chops here, but something is not adding up...

LMAO - I love the grammar police. Consider it free practice for you and no worries on busting my chops as it was warranted.

The truth is when I'm on a forum like this I just don't care b/c I am lazy. I've been out of school for so long and grammar is something I have to actively consider while writing. In a setting like this I don't bother. With that said the real issue was the wedding party that I was keeping company with prior to the post. I am out of town for an interview at one of the schools I am considering and the hotel is active to say the least.

If your implying I didn't score 97th percentile, I'd be more than happy to provide you with my score sheet.

What did you get?

Well, it just seemed odd that you made a claim that the ATI Study Guide is nothing like the real exam. Have you read rainbowvahmet's post?

Over 400,000 views! It is very well written and in my opinion most accurately reflects the truth about the exam. However, you say:

"You absolutely need to buy the online practice tests as they are closer and much more similar in difficulty to the actual test."

"Don't worry to much, the online practice test were much more difficult that the actual test."

So yes, when taken in the context of these two completely contradictory statements by you, I take notice of grammar mistakes. If the goal is to help others than I see red flags here... which of these two statments did you make in error?

I am saying that for somebody that supposedly scored a 97th percentile to claim that the ATI Study Manual is nothing like the real exam is just plain odd and wrong. I cannot help but wonder whether you have stake in one of the resources listed on your TEAS V tips post. And frankly, your TEAS V help post struck me as boastful. Rainbowvahmet's post was both accurate and humble.

If you indeed scored 97th percentile then congratulations! But could you please correct your claims or at least expand on them to more accurately reflect the truth here? Saying the ATI Study Manual is nothing like the real exam is misleading.

It doesn't matter what score I got on the TEAS exam. I am not trying to get into a wizzing match here. I am not the one making bold, contradictory, and inaccurate claims, and then back them up with a bright neon sign flashing my exemplary score to everyone.

From what I have read of your posts, you did very well on the ATI practice tests, right? And... you did very well on the actual test, right? And yet, you did poorly on the online test as stated by you, "I scored in the mid to high 60's and blew the actual test away." So how in the world can you claim, "Let me make this perfectly clear, the book exam is nothing like the actual test - nothing." when in fact your test results between the two match up rather nicely?

LW
