My experience with the TEAS V!

I just wanted to do a post like this since so many others at allnurses have helped me! I don't know how useful this is but I wanted to share my experience.

Adjusted Individual Score: 80.7%

-Reading: 83.3%

-Mathematics: 96.7%

-Science: 68.8%

-English & Language Usage: 83.3%

Okay so I know it's not the best score but it far surpasses what my program requires (62%). It's funny because I thought I was going to bomb the math, even as I was taking the exam I was so nervous. Unlike other posters, I had plenty of time left over to go over my answers which actually saved me a couple of times. I was shocked when I found out how well I had done! Considering I had spent the past two months studying solely science (which clearly was the worst for me). The math is very basic algebra, just be sure to know percent increase/decrease and work-rate formulas.

The reading section was....boring! I had a hard time sitting there for so long reading the passages. The answers would jumble in my mind and I'd have to go back and re-read some of them, which is a hindrance if it is a long passage. My advice, like many others, is to read the questions before reading the passage, so certain things will stick out to you while reading. This will hopefully eliminate having to go back and re-read a bunch of times. Other than the passages, the reading section was pretty straight forward. Just go over that section in the ATI study manual and you should be okay!

The dreaded science portion was, well- DREADFUL. I was fortunate enough to not have tooo many chemistry related questions (my weakest subject), but the areas I had felt strong in before the exam quickly became the enemy. My life science and human body science were my lowest scores, 60% and 63.3%, respectively. The concepts went MUCH deeper than I was anticipating. Know DNA, RNA, mitosis & meiosis, photosynthesis and cellular respiration inside & out, forwards & backwards. I had studied those concepts the MOST and still did poorly on those questions as they were very specific. As has as human body science, it's been 4 years since I took A&P so I was a little rusty with some of those concepts. However, these were very straightforward if you've taken A&P recently and brushed up. I spent all of my time focusing on science but it just wasn't enough. The ATI manual does a good job at giving you a broad look at the concepts but it is up to you to go deeper.

English was tricky- I opted out of taking a break as it was during my math portion and I didn't want to lose time on that. This resulted in me slightly rushing this portion while having to pee and just getting antsy after sitting for 2.5 hrs. Its straightforward, study the manual and you should be fine. It's funny how grammar rules are drilled into us from a very young age but it's also easy to forget a lot of these rules.

So, if you're planning on taking the TEAS soon, STUDY STUDY STUDY and then STUDY again, especially for science. The only resource I purchased was the ATI study manual, I couldn't afford the practice tests but I've heard they are very useful. The manual gives an idea of whats on the text then I used old textbooks along with Youtube for further clarification. The test is very doable if you're prepared. I'm happy to have this over with and finally begin my nursing journey!

Congrats on ur score! Question though, did the math section supply all the conversions u needed? (I was wondering if I should waste my time on that kind of stuff) also when u say work rate is it one specific formula? so many things are coming up when I look it up :/
