Has anyone ever done this as a single parent??

Nursing Students SRNA

Published

When I decided to go back to school and go the Healthcare route the beginning of this year Anesthesia was where I wanted to end up, whether it was CRNA or AA-c . It's my number one interest, 2nd being Forensic but I had known a nursing student who had just started the CRNA program where I had worked and she had to quit work and move back in with her parents because of how hard it was. That's when I figured it would probably be WAY too hard for someone who is a single parent.

I'm actually leaving Miami and moving up to Philly to start school there but will be getting a place with my sister and her husband. I have a 4 year old and am in the middle of a separation so I know once I am with my family I'll have some help with my son.

But would it be enough to accomplish something as grueling as this??

I know both programs the CRNA and the Anesthesiologist Assistant program are both insanely intense but I've heard the AA program is not as bad, they just only offer the programs at 5 different schools in the country(as of now). I'm actually leaving the one state that has 2 of the programs haha. :uhoh3:

I'd just like to know if people think it's doable or not. I'd hate to get all the way there then have to drop out because its too hard with a child. I just know once I'm a Nurse or RRT or whatever I end up doing, in the back of my head I'll always wish I was able to go this route.

Specializes in critcal care, CRNA.

Are you a nurse yet? if not then how long until you finish school? Add 2 years onto that for you ICU time and figure if your child will be ok with you spending your free moments studying instead of being able to play with them. I am sure many people have completed this as a single parent but it has to be very difficult. Its a tough spot to be in for sure.
