I have a few questions that I really need help with. Here is ny plans. I am about to grad from an ADN program. I am going to go the route of RN to BSN/MSN. I have all of my pre-recs out of the way for the BSN program. I have been advised that getting my MSN along with experience in Critical Care and certifications and a good GRE score will make it that much eaiser for me to get accepted into CRNA school. My question is how long or how good are the classes(pre-recs) good for? I have heard that some schools want all your pre=recs to be less than 5 years. Some I've heard want your GRE to be less than 5 years. I have been in school for ever. DO I need to retake my science pre-recs and all pre-recs over if they are more than 5 years old? Also, I have been told that a good GRE score, awesome letters of recommendations, and the last 60 hours of nursing school will better my chances of getting an interview. Would they look at the past 60 hours of graduate nursing classes or the last 60 hours of ADN and BSN classes? Also, I have a BS degree and my gpa was low. Shouls I even consider listing it on my application if the classes that I took don't count for pre-recs? Please help.

I do not know if an MSN would help you or not. I know a lot of people in CRNA school and none of them have their masters. In my humble opinion, I think most schools would value more critical care experience over a masters. As far as your science classes, you need to check with the schools you want to apply to. Some schools do want your sciences within the last 5 years, others do not. The school I got into, Case Western, only required me to have my stats class within the last 5 years. As for the GRE, that is school dependent too. When you apply, they will look at everything. The whole package. Some schools focus on different areas so you would want to speak to an admissions counselor to find out what areas the school focuses on. I would not recommend holding back any information about your college education, despite the fact you may have lower grades. If they found out, that would be the end of your chances.

Of all the people I know who are in school and from reading this forum, there are those who had excellent grades and GRE who got in and some who didn't get in. And then there are those who had just average grades and GRE and did get in. I really think it all comes down to where you apply, what are they looking for and how well you interview.

I have seen some school that suggest/require pre-reqs in a certain time frame and yes I was concerned about the same but it did prevent me from getting in. I guess this explains why some programs are taking people with only one year of exp. because that information is not as older as those with 10yrs exp.

I think you are on the right track with going the RN-MSN as long as you are not looking to get in soon than later (I think about 6 mo. difference between BSN-MSN?)
