Nursing Students SRNA

Hi I am wondering how those of you who are parents were able, financially, to go to CRNA school. Did your significant other support you during? Did you take out cost of living on loans? I know that during CRNA school you cannot work. How do you afford losing an income? Even if my spouse works overtime it won't make up for the loss of my salary. He's all for me going... but I'm just trying to figure out how it's even feasible.

Thank you in advance!

I'm an SRNA, my wife is a nurse. I wish I had saved more money before starting school. I highly recommend saving as much money as possible. You can take out loans to help cover the lost income, but you start accruing interest the day the loan is disbursed. It sucks.

If you have kids, you may be more reliant on daycare as well - we are paying a crapload of money / month for a daycare that opens at 6a (my wife works 7a-3-p).

Yes you'll have a great income afterwards and you will eventually pay back loans, but interest will kill you!

I'll say that it amazed me at how much money I cut out of our monthly expenses by being smart. Got rid of cable, downgraded internet, got a new but cheaper car (think Kia), don't go out to eat, etc. We probably saved 1,000 a month just on that. Then it was working a ton before school started and saving, taking out grad plus loans on top of regular loans, and just doing it. Daycare is expensive but kids don't really need much in terms of expensive stuff to be happy. All in all it will take years and years before this is paid off and I'm actually saving money again. This is why I tell people that if they think CRNA is a way to get rich they are wrong. If you aren't passionate about the job then it isn't worth the financial benefits. If you are passionate then you can make it happen financially with some sacrifices.
