Clarkson College

Nursing Students SRNA

Updated:   Published

I started CRNA school at Clarkson College last week. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask!

We just got told the interview dates and times, as members of the didactic phase and clinical phase will be present before you interview. The general set up is this: you come about half an hour before your interview into a sort of reception area (it's actually our classroom- where all the magic happens!). There you will fill out some forms (I don't remember exactly what, but for sure they have you list clinical site preferences, which is EXCITING!!). This is also meant to be a time for you to ask any question you may have for current students. Don't be shy! I got a lot of good info when I interviewed from these students! And I think it is something unique about Clarkson's process. When the panel of interviewers are ready, they will communicate with the students in the room and one will escort you upstairs. There, you interview (but relax, it's really just your time to shine!!). When you are done, you can either leave or go back and hang out with the students a bit.

They are interviewing about 40 applicants over 4 days for a total of 15 spots. VERY COMPETITIVE YOU GUYS!! The interviews will be Oct 11-14. Interviews for Oct 11, 12, 13th will run from 11:30a to 5:30p, Oct 14th will run from 8:00a to 2:30p

Do you know what the board pass rate is for this year (2017) at Clarkson? Their website has the last few years, but I can't find this year.

It was bad lol Apparently across several programs it was not so great. Like, 50%. Our director said she called her friend, who is Mount Marty's director and cried, then Mount Marty's director said, "OURS WAS WORSE!!"

Don't let that scare you. Class size was 12, so half would be six. And they failed not because they weren't given the tools for success, but rather from their own personal issues. Clarkson does administer two standardized tests before you take your official boards as part of the curriculum. These tests approximate whether you would pass or fail the actual boards. And it also identifies your areas that need further study.

Your success is Clarkson's success and they truly want to see you succeed.

Thanks, good-luck in the program. Sounds like you have a great attitude!

I just found out today I have an interview. What is the interview process like? Is it more laid back get to know you or is it more clinical type questions?

I answered this in the second post of this thread. Go to page one.

Thanks! As a follow up to your question, I found out today that a 3 year membership to APEX is included in tuition. This is phenomenal. Basically, APEX is a board exam prep course, but it also has a ton of useful diagrams/workbooks/flashcards etc. to help you study as an SRNA for your classes. I looked at the preview program stuff on their website today and I can't wait till we get our logins. I asked our program director, and she said we should be getting our logins any day now.

So, like I said, Clarkson gives you all the tools to be successful. They can't take the board exam for you, though, so whoever failed their first exam have some issues to work through, whether that was not using the tools provided or bad test anxiety or whatever. If you are accepted to Clarkson and put the work in, YOU WILL BE SUCCESSFULL!

I can't tell you how much I've come to appreciate Clarkson AFTER being accepted. I guess that's why I started this thread, so others can know how great Clarkson is!

So glad I found this thread! Just found out that I have an interview in a few weeks and now I feel better about how this school interviews. Thank you so much!

I am in a similar position as you. I have a GPA of 3.0 in my BSN; however I have an MSN which my GPA was 3.8 and graduated with honors. I also have been in the ICU since about Aug of 2014, but the majority of my nursing background has been ER. I was really nervous that my lack of extensive ICU and low GPA in undergrad would effect me, but I just found out a few days ago that I got an interview! I also have my CCRN, CEN, TCRN, and TNCC so I think those certifications really helped me. I wouldn't give up with those stats though. It has taken me a long time to boost my GPA and to get more ICU experience but it is finally paying off for me! Hope everything works out in your favor.

What type of MSN did you get?
