Seattle U - APNI 2012

  1. 0 Anyone already applying at Seattle U? Which track? I haven't finished my pre-req's, so I am probably not too competitive this year, but I am going to apply anyway. I am applying for the nurse-midwife track and my background is Microbiology (UW).

I'm applying for the CNM track as well. Prereqs and GRE done, background in international development (Cornell). Returned from the Peace Corps a year ago and became a doula, CNA, and EMT. It's been a long road, but this is my year, finally!

Trying to get more info about clinical and preceptors for the MSN portion. Haven't been able to get a hold of any faculty yet. When I went to the info session, they suggested I call the director of the program, Dr. Carr, but she's so busy... anyone hear anything? Any current CNM candidates from SU have any insights???

Hi! I am applying, too! I'm actually working on it now and had some questions, so I googled them haha. I am applying to the CNM route. And hey, my background is in microbiology, too! (from ohio state)

So I have been working on the app online, and does anyone know: do we mail in our resume and letter of intent? There doesn't seem to be any place to upload them. Also, will our letter of rec writers be sent an email once we submit the app?

Blackbird singing (I love this song),

Yay! A fellow microphile! Do you have any experience in healthcare, nursing, etc? I don't. I've been working in pathology research since junior year at the U.

As far as the resume and letter of intent go, I was also wondering this. I am going to mail them unless somebody tell me any other way. I requested the mailed application and there is no information whatsoever about this in it. I was hoping that it would have *something* about it in the mailed packet, as I thought it was really strange that the online application didn't have it. Usually they do have an area where you can paste stuff.

Now, the rec letters, I've seen that system before. It should trigger two emails with the rec form to the people you selected as soon as you send your application.

My application is almost complete, but I have to finish anatomy. It's not a big deal for me personally, I've taken comparative anatomy before (in Brazil, where I was born and raised) and to memorize 5 different species was a lot harder than just one. I am so happy I don't have to take the GRE again - for now - but if I don't get in this year I will probably have to, since I took it so long ago, in November of 2008.

I just graduated in June, and since then I have worked as a PCA. In college I volunteered, but that is just about the small extent of my health care experience.
And I just called to clarify, but yes, you are right about the letters of rec. I was just confused because I have other applications that I have not submitted and the email had already been sent to the people writing the letters. For Seattle, you actually have to submit the fee payment.
And for the letter of intent and resume, the woman I talked to said that there is an email address listed on the application that we can send it to (but after looking again I did not see it again...). Anywho, I think I am just going to mail them in.

    Good luck!!!

Went to an School of Nursing event on SU campus last night and WOW, the faculty were amazingly kind and encouraging. I just told them I was interested in the program and completed my pre-reqs, and they took the time to answer some questions I had. If you are in the Seattle area, I would definitely recommend going to an information session or any SON event. I'm sure we are all excellent candidates, and if you meet them in person it must give you an edge.

Also I got to meet some current students in the APNI program: 2 first year CNM track, 1 first year FNP track, 1 second year CNM track. They were so smart, nice, perceptive, friendly, gorgeous.. they gave some great insights into the program. They said if you can, take a pathopharm class (like online from a comm college) to lighten your load in summer because those first few months are INTENSE. They also recommended getting software or an app to practice NCLEX questions like, now, because how tricky the questions can be (e.g., "sometimes the wrong answer is the best answer").

Just joined allnurses and saw this thread...I've been wondering all these things too.

I am applying for the CNM program as well, with a Spanish/Public Health/International Studies background from Ohio State (hey blackbird singing!)

I'm about to graduate in December, as I am currently working on three of the pre-requisites. I will only have anatomy/physiology left to complete before june. I'm hoping that won't make me uncompetitive...

I agree that if anyone is in the Seattle area you should drop by Garrand Hall and try to talk with someone. I had a fabulous informal meeting with one of the women who started the program and she helped me out so much.
