Post Master's FNP Help

Hello Everyone,

I am new to this website but was wondering if any of you have some great advice to help guide me. I am currently in my Master's program at Benedictine University to study both Education and Leadership, Management, and Finance. Upon completion I would like to go for a Post-Master's Certificate in FNP. Have any of you done any Post-Master's Certificate Online for FNP? And which schools would you recommend?

I know Georgetown has just started their On-line FNP, however I was wondering if any of you know from experience any others which are very well respected and challenging. At this time I would like to do On-line for I am a mother of 3 boys under 11 and need to do on-line except for test outs during the summer.

Any direction would be great.

Thanks for your time!

I am also working toward my post masters FNP certificate. I just completed 1 semester at UMaSS Boston, and my experience was horrible. The instructors were fine and I have no complaints about the classes themselves. I was accepted into the program and actually declined because the communication between the school and myself was a nightmare. For example, I did't find out I was accepted and enrolled for the semester until ONE week after the classes had already started, and the only way I found out was because I got a letter telling me my email address. The following week I got my acceptance letter. I was going to continue and take summer courses but the nightmare continued with class registration. Everything is by email and getting a reply takes days. I couldn't get anyone on the phone... it was so frustrating and I didn't feel valued as a student or a customer. grad school is stressful enough. By the way, I earned my MSN and MHA online through the University of Phoenix, and I had a wonderful experience. I really wish they offered the post master FNP certificate online because I would be applying today. I am currently shopping for a new school... so let me know if you find a good one:nurse:

Most post-master's NP certificates require you to have completed a master's-level NP program first.

I completed my NP (adult) program through Ball State. All of it was online, and it worked out well with my schedule since I work and have a family. The only downfall was finding clinical sites, since I was competing with other NP programs, as well as with residents and PAs.

University of Phoenix does offer an on-site post-master's FNP certificate in AZ and CA, not an online one. Their web site says its in the Phoenix and Sacramento areas.

You would need to call to find out which cities have the on-site post-master's FNP certificate program.

Hello,

What ever you do don't go to umass bosten's FNP certificate program. The director lacks any kind of communication skills. You are required to find your own site and preceptor---not a problem ..but they don't tell you they won't sign the facilities affiliation contract, nor work on an affiliation contract as they stated they would. Then they pretend they have contacted your preceptor and worked on it, only to tell you it didn't work out about a week before the semester starts. This has now happened three times and told them the public needs to know. They want your money but won't lift a finger to help you even when you've done all the work. The program assistant is conflictual on the phone if you dare ask a question, the director simply stops communicating, the dean simply says its a conflict between the north and the south and Florida and Louisiana are problems. Unfortunately, they don't tell you that the whole time your taking classes anticipating doing your clinicals. The program assistant speaks poorly of the director behind her back--very unprofessional....no one communicates with each --all telling lies...I have the e-mails and everyone needs to know what they are or rather are not doing...So people DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY BY GOING TO UMASS BOSTEN FNP CERTIFICATE PROGRAM. The director is a very poor clinician, educator and director. I wish I could give names...everyone needs to know the scams people are pulling because it is an on line program.....

Greetings.

Did you chose to stay at UMass or did you transfer to another school. Did the program and your experience improve. How long ago was your experience. Please advise. You are most appreciated.

Greetings,

> I see you went to UMass-Boston's FNP program.

>

> I am currently a MSN. I am looking to pursue the FNP at UMass Boston beginning in September.

>

> I would love to talk with you regarding your experience there. I see that the program is an independent study program. Which is similar to the progam I finished at Aspen University.

>

> My biggest concern with an online program is what type of teaching/learning methods are utilized - namely, are there any interactive, engaging methods being used - i.e, pre-recorded lectures, power points with voice, MP3 files, discussion boards, collaborative group assignments, webnairs, virtual simulations, or interactive video modules?

>

> Did you find the course work to be engaging, comprehensive, and useful or was it a bunch of "busy" work?

>

> Where the textbooks truly relevant and useful? Expensive or reasonable?

>

> Where your professors accessible and responsive? Were the instructors PhDs or Masters prepared?

>

> Would you say the course work truly prepared you for your role as FNP or did you have to constantly seek additional sources to fill in the gaps?

>

> How long did it take you to complete the course?

>

> Lastly, did you feel prepared to sit for the national exam?

>

> Your insights would be MOST appreciated.

> Peace and greetings.

I am also a current ARNP-C student at Umass Boston about to start final semester in FNP Postmaster's Program as well and also had similar experiences to those listed here. It took me ONE YEAR to finally obtain clinical sites for both OBGYN and PEDs on my own in order to register for the final semester, otherwise I would have been done by now with the program that claims to take one year in itself. I am very applauded at this program, absolutely NO SUPPORT what so ever, and they charge around $4000 for the final clinical semester in which they do nothing for you. The course work is similar to other online courses I have taken, but trying to get anyone to actually talk to you on the phone from the program to ask a simple question is a big challenge, and when you do finally talk with one they are irritated with you for bugging them. Majority of the voicemails ask you not to bother leaving a message and that email is your only method of interaction. I had to call several times to get someone from the program to follow up with contract agreements and getting them completed in time for clinical, and believe me it took many phone calls to do this, all the time I'm wondering" What exactly am I paying 4,000 dollars for again????" This school is an embarrassment and a scam

I've been reading this thread and I realize it's for the post master's FNP certificate at UMass Boston, but have any of you completed the FNP program through UMass Boston? I am currently looking into the program. Also, how costly was it to complete the FNP?

Thanks for your help!

Everyone here who has had problems with Umass needs to contact the the state of Massachusetts dept of education and file a complaint, otherwise this program will simply continue to abuse future students who are unaware of its horrible customer/student service record. Another avenue to file a complaint would be with the accrediting body that oversees Umass' program. Also, sending a printout of all the bad publicity posted here to the provost of Umass would be another good move. I would be absolutely infuriated if I paid that much $ for a graduate program and was treated like that!
