How's the market for NP's?

I've wanted work in the medical field since I was ten. At first I thought surgeon, ER doc, or psychiatry but was discouraged by the costs and length of medical school. Instead, I became a hs science teacher. I left a crummy job in a crummy economy (one I graduated into mind you) and I know I cannot return to teaching because my heart isn't in it. I would like to become an NP but I know the market for RN's etc is crap. So is the market bad for NP's too?

I don't think that the field for nurses is that bad and the future for NPs should be with plenty of opportunity. I think that it just depends where you live, rural community or city. For NP it may depend on what area you specialize wether ACNP, FNP or WHNP etc. I like working in the ICU as a nurse and I think that nursing is an amazing profession that allows people to help others in a very special and unique way. I do plan to eventually advance myself (most likely CRNA) but I am enjoying the journey.

I agree with the above post. Location and speciality makes a huge difference in terms of the job market. I will be graduating as an ACPNP in May and I am not worried about getting a job. I might not have one before I graduate, but I know I will find one in the area I'm interested in. If you have a more specific question, you might get more useful answers.
