Help! I am desperate!

I am in an online NP program and have to find my own preceptors for each rotation. It has been a bumpy road, to say the least in trying to find preceptors and I have had to travel twice for a couple of my rotations. However, the travel expenses are outrageous. Between housing, auto rental, licensure in that state, and food I have spent $3,000 for 120 hours for an ED rotation. While the experience was great, the cost was steep!

I am reaching out to anyone who has connections or know an NP, MD, DO in Oregon, Washington that works as a hospitalist, or in the ED, ICU please send me a message or reply to this post. I need to come up with a different plan otherwise I will have to travel again for next semester.

Good Luck! You must be in an acute care program. Do you currently work in a hospital? Contact the education department and see if they have any suggestions.

Folks. I don't mean to harp on this issue but you have to nail down the preceptor situation way before you get there.

Most programs require ~ 700-720 hrs. The schools are getting off cheap and being deceptive by not telling you this in no uncertain terms up front that they don't care.

Not doing squat to help NP students should exclude these programs from accreditation. But the day that happens is the day you'll see Malcolm X replace Franklin on the Benjamin.

My paultry advice. Find out where the next NP coffee clatch is happening and go beg. Also, have the check book handy the collegiality can be underwhelming.

But if you luck out, so much the better.

Unfortunately, with the time and money involved, it should never be a matter of luck.

I have to agree with the above. SO grateful my school does all of the work lining up the preceptors. if we know anybody that we prefer to be with, we just give that name to the school and they do the contacting, contract, etc. Otherwise it's random assignment. SO much better than finding my own-i'd be a wreck!

One suggestion I have too, is to find ANY local American Nurses Assoc (there are local chapters EVERYWHERE), Sigma Theta Tau chapters, or any NP associations in your area/county/region/state and GO THERE. Ask for a few minutes to plead your case. NPs will come out the woodwork. You just need to find where they gather and go to them.
