GC&SU is a great school. It has a reputation in Georgia, especially around the central GA area of being a very challenging school, but when you graduate from there, everyone is going to know that you know your stuff! I applied there for last summer but did not get in unfortunately. I took a grad level nursing course there while I waited for my admission decision and truly enjoyed my experience. Professors are awesome and respond to emails very timely. They really care about their students. What exactly do you want to know about the program? I know of several nurses that have gotten in and they are super smart, but know of others that are super intelligent as well, but did not get accepted. Do you absolute best on the GRE, and keep your GPA as high as you can. They will look at, GPA, GRE, and there is an interview/essay component to admissions decisions as well.

Their program is like a hybrid. It is online, but you have to "attend" class every Thursday. It is synchronous. So even though you may not have to physically drive to campus to attend class, you will have to be "present" online for your courses every week. I liked the uniqueness of their program. Luckily, I got into a master's program at another school. I took a quick study break to answer your question, but email me if you have any more questions. I'm pretty familiar with the school itself; I live about 45 minutes away. I hate that they don't have a minimum GRE score listed to get in so when I take the GRE pre-test I would know where I stand. I plan to take the GRE at the beginning of December, so I'm going to study my butt of until then. My GPA isn't as high as I would like it to be, around a 3.0-3.2, but I know they require a 2.75. I'm just going on a hope and a prayer. I'm going to really focus on my professional goal statement and I'm anticipating some decent recommendation letters.

I thought that I would have a decent chance of getting in, but this was not the case. I had a similar G.P.A, and I was pretty much told that my GPA was not high enough. My GRE was high enough to be considered for UAB's program, but it still wasn't enough to get me into GC&SU. I hope that you stand out to them in some way and are considered for admission. If your GPA is not as high as you would like, I would be sure to impress them in other ways. Brush up on your writing skills and prepare for your graduate school interview for the program as well.I wish you the best of luck.

Hey Tara first of all congratulations!!!!!!!!!! I have just applied for the FNP program at GCSU and very nervous about getting admitted because I don't know how well I will do on the GRE. I have a very high GPA from both ADN and BSN programs. Also I am having anxiety about the interview and the personal essay. Can you share any insights Pleassssssss.....................?

If your GPA is high, then try not to worry too much about the GRE. Just do your best on it. They are not looking for any particular minimum score. I was incredibly nervous about the interview as well and those worries turned out to be all for not. It wasn't a very long interview at all and it was 1:1, although I believe they have done panel interviews in the past. As far as the personal essay, that's exactly what it is, personal. Just tell them a little about yourself, why you want to be a NP, and why you think GCSU is the best program for you. I am loving it so far. It is the perfect amount of online learning, with a little hands-on stuff thrown in. I'm extremely happy with my decision to go there. Good luck with your journey!

I was wondering if you are doing the full or part time program? How often do you have to go to a physical classroom? Macon or Milly?

I'm considering GCSU and UAB. I work in Macon at the Med and starting for my FNP after being an RN for 15 years.

I am doing the full-time program. As far as campus requirements....all of them take place at the macon campus since that is the graduate campus for GCSU. There is a 1 week orientation at the very beginning of the program that is mandatory and then there is a 1 week lab immersion week that you will have during advanced assessment that is mandatory. All exams are given on campus, but you may set up a proctor ahead of time and take your exam where you are located. There has only been 1 mandatory campus day for this semester (which is my 2nd semester). I think the campus visits have been quite reasonable. They try to utilize WebEx as much as possible which is an online meeting host. I'm not sure about campus requirements in the coming semester as i haven't gotten that far. If you live that close, I would definitely consider GCSU over UAB, just for the sheer convenience. I know every program has their issues and GCSU's program certainly is not without fault, but it hasn't been a horrible experience and the time is flying by. Good luck in your decision.
