Help Needed From GA practitioner
Hello All, I need help! I am entering my final semester of a women's health NP program this fall. The last two years have been very hard work, but I have enjoyed my program so much. I had plans to graduate this December, but as of now my plans are deferred. I do not have a preceptor secured for my final practicum, but it is not for lack of trying. I have sent out dozens of requests, made numerous calls, and have tried to network through coworkers, friends, and graduates from my school. So far, no luck. I have even tried to reach out to free site ( Ga organization that seeks out preceptors for students), but no response from that site. I notified my program director to let her know that I do not have a preceptor. She is remaining optimistic and told me to keep trying. I hate asking others for help, but I am at a point that I will not graduate without someone's recommendation or kindness. If anyone knows of a nurse midwife, a nurse practitioner in a women's health setting, or an OB-Gyn, who would not mind teaching a student, would someone please help me. I have women's health experience, and I am willing to send my resume if needed. I am willing to travel near or far in Georgia... -Dimples7024

GCSU FNP Summer 2015
I thought that I would have a decent chance of getting in, but this was not the case. I had a similar G.P.A, and I was pretty much told that my GPA was not high enough. My GRE was high enough to be considered for UAB's program, but it still wasn't enough to get me into GC&SU. I hope that you stand out to them in some way and are considered for admission. If your GPA is not as high as you would like, I would be sure to impress them in other ways. Brush up on your writing skills and prepare for your graduate school interview for the program as well.I wish you the best of luck.

GCSU FNP Summer 2015
Tara0219, GC&SU is a great school. It has a reputation in Georgia, especially around the central GA area of being a very challenging school, but when you graduate from there, everyone is going to know that you know your stuff! I applied there for last summer but did not get in unfortunately. I took a grad level nursing course there while I waited for my admission decision and truly enjoyed my experience. Professors are awesome and respond to emails very timely. They really care about their students. What exactly do you want to know about the program? I know of several nurses that have gotten in and they are super smart, but know of others that are super intelligent as well, but did not get accepted. Do you absolute best on the GRE, and keep your GPA as high as you can. They will look at, GPA, GRE, and there is an interview/essay component to admissions decisions as well. Their program is like a hybrid. It is online, but you have to "attend" class every Thursday. It is synchronous. So even though you may not have to physically drive to campus to attend class, you will have to be "present" online for your courses every week. I liked the uniqueness of their program. Luckily, I got into a master's program at another school. I took a quick study break to answer your question, but email me if you have any more questions. You can also contact the school directly and ask for the graduate nursing program coordinator. I think her name is Paige??? Best of luck to you,

WHNP program at USA
Good Morning All, I was wondering if there is anyone on allnurses that can provide some information for me about the WHNP program. As anyone knows who has applied to NP school, it is a LOT, and very competitive. It has been a VERY long process for me from last year until now, awaiting admissions decisions and completing school requirements, but I am glad to finally say that I have been admitted into a NP program. I applied to UAB, USA and two local programs where I am from as well. I was initially interested in WHNP but applied for both FNP and WHNP depending on the schools because a lot of people told me not to limit myself by choosing the WHNP specialty. As fate would have it, I was accepted into the WHNP and am ecstatic about it because I love women's health. I have been a nurse for 7 years, and 4 of that has been as a public health nurse where we provide a lot of care to women in our Family Planning and Breast Screening programs. I do physicals, annuals, pap smears, pelvic exams and sti screening, pregnancy testing, also a lot of counseling and teaching. I would love to hear about people's experience about their WHNP program in general, but particularly at USA. I have read SO many threads about USA on all nurses but most have been FNP information. Thanks to anyone who may reply.

Hello all, Congrats to all accepted. I wanted to ask if there is an "official" health/physical form to take to our doctor to complete, or jusyt that sheet that says no restrictions which the doctor signs?

Scareykarey, I am applying to three other schools. The others are USA, GCSU, and albany state. (The latter two are in georgia). I am sad but not losing hope. The form enclosed in my letter had instructions for me to complete another essay as well. I am apply to GCSU as an "enrichment student." Which just essentially means you take classes for fufillment. But I wanna take pharm or patho while I wait for acceptance into another school
