What Do You Wear To Work?

I was hired at an elementary for the 2014-15 school year. I have been a nurse for 20 years in the hospital, but this is my first job as a school nurse. I had the opportunity to meet with the school nurse that is leaving a couple of weeks ago. When we met I found out we don't wear scrubs but professional attire. I checked with the principal and that is correct. I am a scrubs girl with no professional attire! Is this common? What in the world am I going to wear? I need to go shopping!

I wear regular clothes like the teachers. Although I do have to say that I do get a little dirty, especially my pants because I am always putting my students sneakers on my pants so I can clean their knees. In my district they like us to blend in as part of the educational team, hence, no scrubs. I am sure though, that I could wear scrub pants and a shirt and no one would know the difference. Black pants are black pants. I wear comfortable but stylish Danskos, not sneakers. I have white lab coats as well, but usually only put one on if I am cold or in front of a group of people and need to look like the nurse.

edited to say that it would be easier to wear scrubs because, well, I wouldn't have to think about my clothes in the morning. However, I am out of school by 3pm and I like not running around doing errands and family stuff in my scrubs. Hence why I wear street clothes.

I wear regular clothes since that's what the other nurses in my district wear. However, I work in a tiny district with just 4 schools. I have pre-k through 3rd and I would LOVE to wear scrubs to save my other clothes. Maybe I'll switch. Hmmm.....

I wear casual, professional dress just like teachers. We do wear jeans with a school or district spirit shirt on Fridays. I have 16 preK classes in my elementary school & I find that my youngest students are afraid of people in scrubs which makes it hard to do my job. Also, I find them to convey a degree of status that interferes with developing effective parent relationships.

I wear scrubs & my Danskos most of the time. We usually have jeans (nice jeans, no holes etc) day on Fridays - can wear jeans as long we wear a district or a school shirt - most of the time I end up wearing my khaki scrub pants with the district or school shirt, just more comfortable. I will wear dress pants & blouse when we have district training days.
