Ugh. Bedbugs.

So I have a kid that turned in a library book that had a couple bedbugs in it. Called the dad, he cursed me out and hung up on me. Since that time I have been going through her backpack every morning to make sure there are no hitch-hikers and got a plastic tote to put her stuff in. Teacher found a bug on her (the teacher's) pant leg one day last week, and this morning I found one in her backpack. Our corporation of course has no policy. What do you all do in this sitch? This kid also chronically has head lice which I tried very hard to get the parent (single dad) to eradicate.

Well if your corp doesn't have a policy prohibiting it there isn't a lot you can do about it if the parent doesn't want to cooperate. Our school policy doesn't specifically address bedbugs, fleas, or ticks either...just head lice.

You mention a corporation. Are you a private school? Like Dude said, if there is no policy there is little you can do. We don't have a policy for bed bugs either but if it were an issue we could probably get the board of Ed to craft one, possibly with the help of the local health Dept.
