WDW1971 or anyone,

I guess I had to have a shoulder to cry on. I chatted with some of you a few weeks ago about leaving the hosp to go into the school nurse setting. WDW1071 told me she was doing the opposite and told me about all the in and outs of being in the school and finally said she wouldn't mind working with bigger kids maybe. Well, I have forced myself to work the last 2 weeks in a hospital clinic thinking 2 or 3 schools would hire me last week, but none has and one has removed the job listing online without saying a word to me after I sent a resume, transcript, 4-5 references, and the works. I am so hurt. I applied at Desoto East Junior back in early July online position. A good friend in town said his sister knew someone that was up there inside the district and they advised me to apply. I emailed twice last month and they said the position was still open. I looked today on the district website, and the position is no longer posted. What's going on? I am so hurt by the time spent searching, applying online, sending resumes and then they never contact you and say one word about the status of the position. What happened to it? Did it vanish in thin air? They don't care about a person's efforts and intentions. How can you offer something and never acknowledge other people's responses to something you submitted to the public? Just venting.

My husband is a school teacher and I looked so forward to get on his and the childrens' schedule. I have 20 years exp in the hosp and 4-5 months as a school nurse back in 1999. I left bc of the pay, take home was $500/month after insurance bc the pay was prorated. I had to work at the hosp on the weekend. I don't know why they won't hire. Do you think it's bc of the length of experience? :scrying: How do others get their foot in the door? Is it who you know?

Do call and find out if the postions are filled. The fact that you have not checked what is going on might be interpreted as disinterest. One person I know who did get a job this spring for the fall found out that her faxed resume had been destroyed by someone who saw it come over the fax who had a friend applying for the job. When she called about why she had not been contacted, they had no reconrd of her application and resume. She hand delivered and was hired.

Many times in school districts, jobs are posted because they HAVE to be by law, but someone's spouse or buddy is already in the bag and the posting is a formality.

The best thing is to be one of these insiders. Ask you husband to keep his ear to the ground. He needs to make friends with his school nurse and ask questions for you and ask if the school nurse would mind if you stop by to get some advice. Find out the scuttlebutt. You should find out when they need volunteers for screenings. Attend local school nurse conferences and make connections. Ask someone there to critique you resume and make suggestions about changing it or getting some experience in a specific area you are lacking.

Go for it!!!!! Hospitals are sometimes desperate for a warm body with a license. There are usually several applications for each school nurse position.
