Californian school nurses: question about credential

This is a question for school nurses in California:

Does anyone know what happens if I can't complete the requirements to the clear credential within 5 years of obtaining the preliminary credential?

I know you cannot renew the preliminary credential, and also know that you can only obtain the clear credential after completing a credential program and working 2 years as a school nurse.

I am in the process of applying for a preliminary credential, but let's say something happens and I'm not able to complete the program or work 2 years within the next 5 years. Does it mean that I will never be able to request a credential or work as school nurse again?

It depends. You can request an extension. I know school nurses in my area who have done that because we live in a rural area and the closest CSU canceled their School Nurse Credential Program so it was difficult for them to complete a program on time. But you should have the 2 years of work since you shouldn't even be applying for the Preliminary until you're already hired through your District/School site.
