im not a retired nurse, but i have a question for my mom?

my mom has been a nurse for about ..lets just say my whole life (im 20) and she just recently retired because of injuries she sustained in a car accident..nothing life threatening (thank god) but she has some back and muscle problems. even though she cant do the actual nursing part of nursing (pulling, tugging lifting) she still wants to work. shes asked me what kind of jobs (as a nurse) can she do without all the strain, but im at my wits end.. any suggestions??

Case Management, Quality Improvement, Clinical Educator, Community Liaison for home care agencies, Nursing informatics, Nursing Supervisor, Hospital Bed coordinator, IV infusion coordinator home care, Public Health nurse..... just off the top of my head.

The list above is good however, I would hold off on stating that a Hospital Bed Coordinator is a good job for a nurse with back injuries. Some environment requires the Bed Coordinator to actually move the bed (with patient in the bed) to the next location due to short staffing. Also, Hospital Case Managers in general do not touch patients, but are on his/her feet, must be able to move fast, and are required to carry equipment/lift equipment.

Therefore, OP your Mom should definitely make sure she chooses an environment and specialty that will not require her to lift/carry/push above her medical weight limit. She should also think about finding a job that is low stress (sadly, this is next to impossible in most nursing positions).
