I will be interviewing for the RN Liaison position for a Rehab hospital and I want to know going in what I can expect for this position. It states that I would travel to hospitals to assess patients for possible admission and market the facility. Also, any idea what to expect for a salary in this position? THanks!

Salary is partly dependent upon the geographic region where you live and work.

The liaison basically markets the benefits of physical rehabilitation to potential patients, their family members, and hospital discharge planners to convince them to discharge the patient to your rehab facility. You will need good communication skills, impeccable wardrobe, and the ability to basically sell the facility.

Liaisons also communicate with hospital social workers, case managers, physicians, and nursing staff at the various hospitals to drum up referrals and and maintains positive connections with area hospitals so that these people will actually want to discharge their patients to your rehab facility.

In addition, the liaison visits area hospitals to assess patients to ensure they will be appropriate admissions for the rehab facility. This is important because an inappropriate admission could cost the rehab facility plenty of money in lost revenue.

In simple words, the liaison's job is to keep warm heads in the beds. The liaison must generate enough newly admitted patients to the rehab facility so census remains stable. It is a light sales and marketing gig with some nursing skills involved.

Well I didn't even consider the "impeccable wardrobe".... I guess the posting does say it is also a "marketing" position so that would make sense. Maybe I'll be lucky enough they offer some kind of wardrobe allowance since I wear scrubs everyday in my current position. Your post is very helpful...THANKS SO MUCH!

I've worked for lots of different organizations over the years in positions that called for street clothes rather than uniforms (including positions that incorporated some degree of "marketing"). I've never worked for any employer that helped pay for purchasing street clothes for work. In my experience, your ability to dress appropriately for the job is just considered one of the basic requirements of the job.

So I had my interview today and feel it went really well. I'm pretty sure I will get a second interview next week. I got a lot of insight of the position and feel I would really enjoy this position.

I had another interview today for a Liaison position....this time in the LTAC that I currently work in. I have already been considered for a 2nd interview with the corporate marketing lady. She doesn't live here so I'm not sure whether she will be coming in for a visit or if it will be a phone interview. Either way I am excited that the CEO and Liaison manager both thought I was a good fit for the position and since I am internal, feel like I have a good chance at the position.
