does the bsn program matter???

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

Hello all! I am going to graduate in May with my ADN and am looking to continue on and get my BSN right away. I already have a BS in biology and have a very good GPA. I am considering continuing on to get my DNP (eventually) but have heard that going through an online pass/fail BSN program (like Western Governor's for example) may hinder my acceptance to an NP program in the future. What do you think? Will it matter that the 30 credits of BSN courses are pass/fail even if the program is CCNE accredited?

Thank you for any input.

I think the reason why most people say a pass/fail program may affect your chances is due to some graduate programs converting your GPA to a flat 3.0 for all the pass classes out of 4.0. So you're automatically at a disadvantage. However, there are lots of people who were able to get into a graduate program from a pass/fail program. I would just make sure that whatever program you chose is CCNE accredited.

I did not know that about . So even if you pass and do well on everything you can only get a 3.0 for GPA? If that is so, I will rule them out when I decide it time to get my BSN. That is kinda weird.

PP information is accurate. is strictly pass/fail. Most grad schools are very reluctant to admit anyone who does not have evidence that they have 'above average' academic ability. Maybe it would be offset by stellar results on your GRE - but that seems risky.
