Interventional Radiology Nurse Call Schedule

We have 3 IR suites, US, CT, MRI and Nuclear Medicine coverage by nursing.

We also have a 10 bed post and pre care unit.

In a six week schedule the IR/CT nurses are required to take 2 night calls. 7p-630a

We have 13 nurses in IR/CT so we are on call every 13th weekend from Friday night 700-Monday AM 630. The week before we are on call on the weekend...we have Paid Administrative Leave for which we are paid 40 hours and are not in the schedule.

There are 10 nurses in the Pre and post care area and 2 patient care techs, we also have 3 LPNs who staff the IV cubbie.

The Radiology Care Unit has late stay staff who rotate 2 each day to stay after the 7pm closing time if we still have patients in recovery mode.

We have 2 RN's who work off site as pre procedure assessment nurses, who also do post calls as well. They work M-F 40 hours.

I work in a teaching hospital with 1,000 beds.

Just looking for some answers to compare facilities. I currently work in Interventional Radiology at a 400 bed hospital. We have two suites in our IR department which is staffed by four nurses. Wondering how big other IR departments are (nurse : suite ratio) and what your call schedule is (how many weekday calls and weekend calls).

I work in a 500 bed Level I trauma center. We run one IR room with one RN and 4 rad techs. We cover the entire imaging dept. We have 9 RN's staffing around the clock except weekend and holidays. One RN covers the night shift. We cover call rotating the holidays and cover the weekend call every 9th weekend. No weekday calls unless our night nurse is on vacation, then we just pick it up. By the way we perform around 1200 procedures per year.

I work in an 800+ bed teaching hospital. We currently have 6 angio suites (with plans of expanding to 9 in the next couple of years). We are going through a transition in our department and splitting off from all other modalities. Our schedule will be 7am-6pm x 9 RN's and 11am-9pm x 2 RN's Monday through Friday, and 2 RN's on Saturdays, which means no scheduled overnights, Sundays or holidays, and instead on call responsibilities. Anyone have thoughts about how many weekday and weekend calls we should be assigning? We will eventually have ~22 RN's. This transition is supposed to happen in January, and no one seems to know what to expect.
