sex crazed patients

by Shell5

What is the most professional and appropriate way to deal with a patient who makes statements about having "a boner" and being "your most favorite patient." He talks about sex alot and is attention seeking with these type of statements.

I immediately re-direct those kind of statements with "you know that is not appropriate". That usually does it and if not I walk away.

In addition to that Jules, it is important to not demonstrate an emotional response to it...which often becomes the secondary gain. So, in a sense, you verbally redirect as well as show emotional benign neglect to the statements...no emotional energy given to them.
