Is a BSN required for pysch nursing? I have an ADN and thought about venturing into pysch, I do ED now. I only have a ADN and I am not looking at advancing anytime soon. I recall in nursing school, that it was said you had to have a BSN to do pysch. Is that still true?

I sure don't remember that rule.

But really, I don't beleive you need a BSN to work in Psych. It doesn't hurt if you want to move up the ladder though.

Good luck to ya!

To work in psych....no...not necessary. Your ADN is fine.

I am an ADN nurse and I function as a Nursing Supervisor in a free standing private psych hospital. However I have a Batchelor's degree in another field and some grad school credits.

ADN is fine for entry level but expect to need to do some serious private study about psych to get up to speed. There are lots of psych journals and most likely they will be available to you from your employer's libray.

i have an adn and have been working in psych for 15 years.

at my facility, education beyond adn is required for advancement such as nursing administrator
