Need psych help in Texas--No insurance

I know someone who is seeking psych help for bipolar disorder that she feels is out of hand...She's burning herself, etc. and she thinks she needs to be in residential treatment. BUT, she has no insurance and no family to speak of. She tried to get help through her University, but whoever they sent her to didn't think she was bad enough for residential treatment. Now, it's gotten to the point where she's dropped out of school (so she no longer has that resource) and she's living with the pastor of her church until she can figure something out. Do any of you have any idea where she can turn? Surely, there's help for her somewhere.:uhoh21:

is she a minor? if so get her admitted and have the parents or guardians fight for her care. we got our state rep to get our son under our dept of mental health to pay for his rtc. also if she if she is not enrolled in school, she can enroll, request in writing for a full evaluation for an iep. it takes time but this is another way to get someone to pay for rtc

Depends on where she is, I am just finishing a psych rotation in a state run facility, and have seen clients admitted to the facility for taking 9 over the counter ibuprophens (which is not enough to harm most people) but the magic words "kill myself" did it. The state facilities here will only keep them long enough to stabalize them on medications and they have very little recourse to counseling on the units. Meds however should be free of cost if she can get into the MHMR system.

The system here does not seem to function very well and is always under funded. I wish there were better news.
