You are so right, and it's that way everywhere -- hospital units, LTC. One of the nurses I work with used to be in oncology 20 yrs ago, my first job, and she said she knows there's no way she could do it today. She admits back then a lot of what she did was wipe brows with cool cloths. I took a nursing research class last semester and one of the students proposed a study of the effectiveness of massage on patient healing. Imagine having time to massage a patient? Wouldn't you love to be a patient in that facility??

I think it is overkill, simply because what a lot of these folks really needed was more simple help with ADL's, just more time spent with them, period, where all staff, from UAP to DONs, had the time to be patient and gentle. It isn't possible with staffing as it is now.
