How do I encorporate Nursing in owning a Homeless Shelter

  1. hi I want to incorporate my experiences in psychiatric nursing in owning a homeless shelter. Is this possible? What would my title be consider other than owner? How would I get paid? Do I need to be a Nurse Practioner first? Do nurses work in homeless shelter? I need help. Thanks

"Owning" a homeless shelter? What do you think the source of income will be? I think that your best bet right now is to GO to a homeless shelter and learn how they operate. Because without that basic information- you'll likely expend time, energy and money for naught.

Likely no money to be made as you have to think about where your revenue stream comes from. Homeless shelters do great work but often rely on charitable donations to get by. Now if you looking into owning a business that incorporates providing housing and healthcare for the psychiatrically ill population you might want to open a group or communal living home. These folks often have funds available in the form of Social Security or Medicaid. Might be worth it to you to look into this avenue. Do your research first though. Such businesses are often highly regulated. The better one's that I have worked with seem to stay on top of state regulations but there are some facilities that are pretty shady and keep opening and closing under different names.

If you are just trying to help this population why not volunteer some time at a shelter to help provide basic nursing care. Just be sure you have a good Malpractice Insurance Policy as you are likely to get sued by residents or greedy family members if something goes wrong.
