Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on how to study for this test? Which studyguide, book to buy or any general info to pass along? I have been in psych for the past 5 years and would like to take the test in the next few months.
The test was pretty easy. I felt underprepared and had a little too much coffee the morning of, but like other nursing tests, once you relax and take the time to break down the questions and answers, you're all set. I bought the ANCC book, but I didn't open it until a day or two before the test and it may or may not have helped. I take that back - being able to recognize the different theories and their stages, etc. helped. I also took out the psych section of some old Mosby NCLEX index cards and went over them a few times. You'll be fine. Just take your time, make educated guesses (eliminate obvious wrong answers, look for key words in the questions, etc.), & don't drink too much coffee. Also, just act like it's old hat when they tell you that you passed, then exhale or pump your fist or whatever you feel is appropriate when you're in the parking lot.
A few months before I took it (many years ago), I happened to go to a grad school open house. Talking to the psych instructor I asked about what she thought I should study. Took me to her office, and gave me a wrapped sample copy of a textbook.
I just casually read through it, focusing on what I thought I might need to know more of. That was all that was needed for me.
