Working Weekends

Specialties Private Duty

So one of the perks I enjoy about private duty is having a flexible schedule, and usually that involved not working weekends or holidays if I didn't want to. I just started back on at an agency I worked with a while back, the openings they had were for wed, thur, sat, I told them I could do that for the rest of this month but every Saturday wouldn't work for me. Who wants to work every Saturday night?! Not this girl! The client's schedule really isn't that flexible so I'll probably have to drop Saturday and pick up a day somewhere else that has an opening during the week. I was just curious what everyone else's schedules were like. Do you work weekends, or every other weekends, is it mandatory, or are they pretty understanding with giving you a schedule that works for your needs? Do they give you a hard time if you take off on Holidays or is that pretty well understood too? Just being curious, Thanks!

I work per diem and had to sign that I would work 4 weekend shifts per month, in the beginning that was fine since we used to get weekend differential, but since they took it away there's no incentive. If I specifically ask for a weekend off I only get 3 shifts for the week because I get 2 weekdays off also in addition to the weekend. I really wish they'd make a rotating schedule because some nurses are expected to work every weekend and other nurses get every weekend off.

At my agency we only work when we want to. I love it. I am able to take off whenever I want for vacations, don't have to work Sundays, etc. It was never that way when I worked in the hospital.

The downside is no benefits, no diff, and no guarantee of work once your case ends. It is definitely a trade off, but right now I love that I alone control my schedule and the hours I work.

Agencies I've worked for you work only when you are available. If you want benefits there are minimums for how many shifts
