why are there sooo many jobs in private duty

Hello I just wanted to comment to the question. I can't speak on the pay so much. If you are in private duty it is up to you to accept a job that pays less. If you are an Rn and your working in the capacity of an LVN you will still be held accountable for what a prudent nurse with your highest level of licensure would do if something happened. I hope this information helps you! I don't know so much about the demands for PDN (Private Duty Nursing) but I would like to know what's it's like in TX. Most CNA's that are sitters say that business is slow! I would like to know if someone else knows in the South Region or Western Hemisphere (Houston)!

Pay rate does not equal responsibility. If a case allows either a LVN/LPN or RN to provide care then the agency determines the level of pay to the nurse. Some pay more to a RN but many pay the same rate regardless of the license. One is always held accountable to your highest level of licensure. Nothing illegal or unethical...just economics for the agency.

I just came across this discussion, I have been a nurse for 26 years mainly in the ER/Critical Care/Flight nurse areas, can anyone etell me how to find Private Duty Nurse position? I cant seem to find them anywhere.

My buddy who was really into this, said she got around by word of mouth. And the first time this happened it was entirely by accident that she was referred to one client by someone who had been happy with her work. There was also a complicated situation that had come about stemming from a case that she had worked for an agency. So, to make a long story shorter, many people enter into private duty agreements with clients that they worked for as employees of an agency. You can also place ads in the paper or craigslist, or answer ads in the same venues.

I'm in Austin actually. I did have an interview with PSA and absolutely will not work for them; they are way too "loosey-goosey" for me in their approach to doing business. I could see being put into a situation that would result in some bad outcomes and/or not getting any back up from the management team. The last place I want to have no support is in a fragile childs home where things can bad very quickly. In other words they had too many cases that have had no stable nurses for a long time. One or two I can understand....over a dozen? That tells me they are all about collecting their fees without regard to client outcomes or supporting their staff.
