DME problems

Kind of a vent. My private duty pt was denied a turning bed replacement from insurance. Mom expects nurses to handle this. I'm unsure what to do. Meanwhile pt is unhappy because he is uncomfortable and wants a new bed repacement NOW. Do appeals ever work? I'm really unsure about handling this.

It's not your place. The family is taking it out on you. Refer the family to your supervisor when they discuss this with you and let your supervisor know about the issue. This needs to be handled by the pts Dr, social services, case management, DME, or all if the above working together. But beyond contacting the Dr, there is nothing you can do. And be careful because if the family is dragging you into it, it may not end well for you. They will use you or blame you if things don't go well.

This is not a staff nurse issue. This is between the family & their insurance carrier. Social work, ordering physician, case manager etc. should be working with the family.
