Why am I taking Zoology.....ugh

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hi everyone, I am attending a 4 year university seeking my BSN degree and I know it's a degree with a science background...but tell me if I'm wrong but two of my natural science courses are Zoology and Comp. Vertebral Anatomy which both deal with animals. The ? I am trying to ask is how does this relate to Nursing shouldn't we be learning the human anatomy afterall our patients will be humans not amphibians or fish....pls help or enlighten me because I'm lost....thanks in advance.

I've never heard of zoology for nursing or a BSN. Interesting. I don't know what to tell you. Normally all the science classes one takes for pre-nursing fulfills some/most of the BSN requirements. Maybe check with your advisor?

Thanks for your comment but I don't know maybe it's an institution requirement and my advisor put me in the class it's on my curriculum. But I think they should have put human anatomy on the curriculum. We don't have any natural science that deals with human anatomy in the curriculum ugh but thanks again.

I'd still clarify that with your school advisor. It would be a waste to be taking classes which won't apply towards pre-nursing or a BSN. There could be some kind of misunderstanding as to what your major is which is why you were placed in the classes you're taking. As for no natural science classes, you can always take your pre-reqs at a different school to fulfill the requirement. I don't know what school you're going to, you didn't say. Every school is different, and I don't know exactly what all entails by taking zoology and comp. vertebral anatomy. At first impression, I'd be guessing those classes were more geared towards a Biology degree or Vet medicine. Forgive me if I'm wrong. Maybe someone has more experience with this. Anatomy & Physiology are well-known pre-reqs that everyone must take to go into nursing school. The classes could be the same with a different name. I would ask.

Thanks again for responding, I attend South Carolina State University and those classes are actually on my curriculum and is a requirement. I'm going to try and fit human anatomy and phys. in my schedule somehow. But like you said those classed should be a requirement for Biology not nursing but idk smh.

Once you are in the school all you have to do is pick a curriculum, or do you have to apply to an actual program? I noticed your school is nationally accredited.

I have to go by the pre licensure curriculum and once I'm in the program I can start taking upper level nursing courses the only nursing classes I can take prior to getting in the program is Nursing 101, Nursing 210 and Pharm. I hate to take Zoology but I guess I have no choice.

Honestly, I think it is weird too. I looked at the curriculum for the different tracks, and I noticed the RN-BSN track requires the regular anatomy and physiology classes. I am curious why the BSN pre-licensure track wouldn't have the same requirement. I'd be tempted to ask the advisor about that..
