What is chemistry for nursing like?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Instead of taking general chemistry, I was told to take chemistry for nursing instead. I heard that it is an easy class from all the people who have taken it but I am just wondering... what is the class like? What do you do at the labs and what do learn? I start in a few weeks for the spring semester but I am just curious and excited! This is the first science class I have taken since my junior year of high school, I am a freshmen in college now.

Just to clarify, I probably should have called it this in the first place, the class is called General Chem for Health Sciences. So not limited to just nursing! Oops.

I would expect that to also be a somewhat "watered down" version of the "real" chemistry courses.

I took Chemistry for Health science majors (and micro for health science majors). at my school they focus more on the areas that are more involved in human body reactions...I don't remember exactly what we did in the labs.....but it was pretty easy stuff....I was REALLY worried about chemistry because of the mathy portions but I ended up with an A. I think it eliminated some things and the text books focused more in a "healthcare related" way....it was easier for me to relate it to what I would need for the future. I didn't feel like the course was "dumbed down" just focused more on the things that would be most important in the healthcare field. But that's just my opinion.

This is an in-depth answer - thank you! :)

I am not too worried about the math aspects of the class because I actually somewhat enjoy algebra and that sort of thing. Sounds like this was a good pick for my first science class. It is going to warm me up for Anatomy, hehe.
