Thinking of having children

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hey All

I am waiting to hear back on getting into nursing school for the fall but my husband and I are talking about having our first child. We are getting older he is 32 and I am 28, if I get into nursing school we have 2 years before I graduate and if I do not get into nursing school could be another 3 years or more before I graduate. We were talking about if I do get into nursing school we were looking at starting to try around Aug-nov so I would be due during the summer when school would be on break. If we do not get pregnant then we would stop trying. My mom is not working currently and would be our support once the baby is born. I just wanting to hear from others if I do get into nursing school is it better to wait the 2 years or if I do not get into nursing school if it is better to get pregnant now while I am finishing my class at community college. Also is it better to get pregnant the first semester of nursing school? Has anyone been pregnant their first year in rn school and how their experience was? Please help Thank you

I know many people who have had children/were pregnant during and before nursing school. They said it was very hard, but they finished. I myself just had a child, and have a hard time just studying. I feel like if you are able to wait until youre done with nursing school, that would be what I would of done. But I didn't plan lol

Many people have done it before you! Just know that adding kids to the mix (and this goes for just life in general) is going to make everything a lot more difficult to do. Date nights, class times, study times etc. that's awesome that you have your mom to help, you would really need her! But if it's what you want to do, yes it is doable and I would think the best plan is to have the baby in summer so you are out of school.

An old friend of mine was pregnant for her last semester and was due like one or two weeks after her finals and they told her if she couldn't make it to the finals she would be dropped! So just really think about what is most important to you and go from there. Is it doable? Yes. Will it be harder to do nursing school with a kid? Yes.

Also, keep in mind that if, God forbid, anything happens you might end up on bed rest during classes.

Thank You! We are going to wait to hear back from the school on if I get in. If I get in we will wait till I graduate but if I do not we are going to try since I'll be in community college and class will be more flexible. :) thank you
