Study tips

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Hello everyone ! I was wondering if any of you can share the methods you use when studying. I find that when I sit down for more than an hour in silence I become very distracted and lose focus. It also seems like I over study one part of a chapter instead of trying to retain everything on the same level. Any feedback will be helpful thank you.

Hello there. I can shed a few of the tips that work for me. first things first; do NOt--I repeat--do NOT study nonstop for long periods of time. Your brain is already working at a constant, so keep that in mind when you are exercising it when studying. It's better to study in half hour increments with at least a 10 minute break. Then go back to studying. You should reward yourself for the tasks you accomplish. Trust me, if you keep putting your all in something and don't get anything positive in return, you will suffer and feel miserable.

Another thing I would suggest is that you plan ahead, but do so realistically. I look at all of my due dates from each class and make a table of them on one sheet to keep my priorities of due dates in line. This has probably been the most helpful thing I have done for myself. I highlight each assignment I complete on that table and write down my grade for that assignment. So , when looking at my sheet, I can see where I stand in all of my classes. Make a table on word, label the columns as such: Due Date, Lecture (or Course), Homeworks ( and or Assignments), and the Grade. It will take about two hours or so to do this, but it had paid off tremendously for me since I started it this semester. I forgot many HWs previous semesters.

What classes are you taking? Some topics require a slightly different study approach. Let me know. Hope what I posted helped some.

My routine for A&P (both I and II) is pretty much to read a section of the chapter ahead of lecture so I get a general idea behind what's going on. Then I go to lecture and take the notes (our professor doesn't use PowerPoints...hates them, actually, and prefers to write his own on the board, which I've come to like a lot more). Then later, I'll make note cards almost exactly identical to my notes, but they'll be chopped up into pieces of information so I'm not trying to mentally ingest so much at a time. Then I just keep going over them, and rinse and repeat.

Honestly, I don't really find myself spending a ton of time studying. I hear people say they spend hours upon hours studying, and I don't think I've ever spent more than 6 hours a week for A&P, and I still do fine. Then again, I'm enjoying the class like no other, so I imagine that has something to do with it.
