Statistics

Statistics isn't that hard if you really put in the time and effort. I took college algebra at community college and had a really hard time with it and then found out afterwards that I could've just taken stats. I took stats the semester after college algebra and I got an A. I actually really enjoyed my stats class. So much so that I liked to do my hw for the class lol. However, I will say that each and every problem can be quite lengthy. The problems themselves aren't difficult if you take good notes and pay attention in class. Also, most professors tend to provide you most of the formulas for the exams. Both my stats professor at the community college and at the university I currently attend provided the formulas (I had to take an upper division stats class as well as lower division). If you do decide to take stats my best advice would be to make sure you really put in the time to get all of your hw done. Repetition is key! And if you don't understand something make sure to ask the professor for help :)

I took statistics in a 6 week accelerated semester (summer) while even doing a bike ride from San Francisco to LA (545 miles!). Missed 6 chapters because of it, ugh. It's completely dependent on if you get a good teacher, though. A bad stats teacher is the worst thing you could have.

Statistics is much much easier than pre-cal! Statistics is about real life stuff: percentages, samples, confidence level of data, ect. It was really easy to me. You use formulas for almost everyhting.

Like others have said, keep up with the homework and you should be fine in Statistics. A lot of teachers used My Stats Lab software that goes along with your textbook for homework and quizes. That was the worst part because it was time consuming.

Check with the nursing reqirements and see what types of Statistics classes meet their guidelines. Some schools will let you take a Stats for Public Health or Stats for Psychology, which is a little more applicable that the normal Stats classes offered through the Math or Economics departments.

I think you'll be fine with stats. None of the nursing programs (AAS or BSN) all require stats and not pre-cal anyway! I'm sure you'll do great!Good Luck!

I don't know what area you are in, but my BSN program (and most in my area) required statistics. I took a Stats for Healthcare class at my CC and passed with a B...you will need stats when you take Research/EBP nursing, but it depends on the program. :yes:

I would suggest if you are casting your net wide, to find out what classes are required for the BSN programs, then go from there; if pre-calc is required for ALL, I suggest getting a tutor. Best wishes.
