Should I take full time classes as a pre-nursing student?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I just started working on my nursing pre-reqs at a community college last semester. I took on full time classes and it honestly drove my grades into the ground. Before taking these full time classes, I was out of school for a few years before I got my GED. So I'm thinking maybe this was the cause of the difficulty I had? Anyway... I am enrolled in Psych 201, Biology 121 which will be the second time I took this class, and English 102. Should I enroll in another class so I don't take forever getting my pre-reqs out of the way? Also any advice you guys have to offer would be great. :)

I would suggest trying to have as full a course load as you can but still manage to get good grades (because ultimately grades are important too). Keeping a full course load will prepare you for the extra full course load that is nursing school, you'll learn how to manage all the classes and maintain good grades.

I agree, cut down on the workload to help get better grades in your science and math classes.

Agreed with previous comments. It's definitely understandable to want to speed up the pre-reqs, but if your learning will suffer from it then it's not going to help you!

Definitely make use of tutoring, learning strategies, etc, whatever it takes for you to find the best way for YOU to study. And maybe stick with the 3 classes this semester; if you feel like it's totally manageable, you can add a 4th next time around. But try to have a balance of harder and easier classes. Statistics, Anatomy, Microbiology, and Chemistry in one semester might be the death of you (or me, for that matter!). :p
