PLEASE HELP i cant get into nursing school

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Okay so I have been going to community college for about 5 years taking and retaking classes to try to increase my gpa. I had a 2.8 but I transferred to another school and now have a 3.0. Ive also taken the TEAS and got a 73%. Is that good? I have been applying to RN programs in my area but as of yet no luck. I am so discouraged I dont know what to do with myself. I have to admit I have struggled through school but mainly because of my personal situation. My home life really has not been condusive to learning but I have recently moved out and can now focus and I am doing much better. I just dont know how to fix things without having to start over (if there is such a thing). I live in the Philadelphia area and would really appreciate it if someone out there could lend some advise as to what to do and/or what schools I should apply to. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

How are your pre-requisite science grades? Did you do well in A&P, Micro, Chemistry? How about English and math? Some ADN programs only look at those grades. You could have an associates degree with a 2.5 GPA and receive points based on a chancellors formula to calculate your competitiveness to be into a lottery system like many schools have in CA for the ADN.

I totally understand being a realist, but I am a glass half full person and truly believe where there is a will there is a way. If you really, really want to be a nurse, don't give up. I applied to an ABSN program at Concordia University and I did not get in, but I read the blog on allnurses.com of different people posting their stats/excitement or disappointment when interview notices were sent out. One woman stated that she had a 2.8 GPA in her undergrad (although that was over 10 years prior) but she continued taking classes over the years and recieved a second degree and achieved a much higher GPA and she got in.

So, I guess my point is life is journey and it's all about timing. It feels crummy right now, but its only temporary, there is a school for you. Maybe nursing school won't happen this year, but keep trying. Keep taking classes if you can, reach out to people at schools, talk to the dean of nursing, etc.,

Stay hopeful.

It sounds like you need a good dose of hope. Why not go for your LPN like you said? That'll boost your GPA up if you do well. The bridge LPN to RN programs are not as competitive. It'll take a lot of work but if its what you want you'll make it happen. Im talking studying all day on the nicest day of the year while everyone else is having fun. Retake your TEAS after studying and re-studying that prep book a few times. You can do it!!

Also moving to another state to go to school. Some states are far less competitive.

Also if you're LPN is a certificate program with no GPA take some elective type courses that'll be easy A's and boost up the GPA I.e. Interpersonal communications, psych 101, soc 101.

I know this post is like 3 years old but for anyone having this problem that is willing to travel to be in nursing school.. SUNY Morrisville only requires a 2.75 to be accepted into their nursing program. Its first come, first serve so if you meet the application requirements you will get in probably within a year. They also have two campuses and one of them offers every nursing course every semester.
