Hey all!

Sorry this is going sound silly, but I'm officially freeking! I start school next Tues. ! Anyway~ I just got an email saying that I am now in the english comp. class (that I was on the waitlist for). I was nervous before, but now it's official. I'm so scared I'm going to walk in the first day, and they are going to say you have 30 min. to write an essay (or write anything for that matter):chair: . I haven't been in school in a long time, and when I was in HS I HATED english, and didn't pay attention. Honestly I'm clueless! Someone please tell me they aren't that mean. What should I expect? I am also taking psyc. and bio. I wasn't too concerned about those 2 untill I started looking at the book for bio. It's not comming back to me as fast as I thought it would. I haven't even cracked the psyc. book yet, maybe I should do that. Ok someone slap me and tell me it'll all work out and I'll be fine (right???:lol2: ). Thanks for letting me vent a bit, off to practice my deep breathing now :lol2: !

I love English, but I can understand how overwhelming it can be. Esp. papers. I love to write, but I hate to make the citation page. I found this website which helped SOOOO much. You just click on the format you need (for an English class it would be MLA, anything like Psych is probably going to be APA), click whether you are quoting a book, magazine article, or whatever, plug in the author, title, etc. and it gives you the proper citation. Then you copy and paste it into your "Works Cited" page, and your good to go. Saved my life more than once last year!! Here's the link:

Enjoy!!

Christinmomof3nrs2be- I forgot to make this suggestion: if English and writing papers is really your weakness and you are sure of that, you might try doing two things: 1) speak with your Comp instructor privately and tell him/her this and ask if maybe they have a sample paper that would show you what a 'good' paper looks like, OR 2) ask your instructor for the possibility of handing in a paper early and getting feedback before giving in the final draft. In my nursing school, some instructors were willing to do this for any student who asked- which was EXCEPTIONALLY nice, considering all the papers they had to read. If both of those don't work, try to find a class buddy who might be willing to read over one of your first papers and give helpful feedback to you. Or see if your school has any free tutors. Attack this weakness head on- you will ALWAYS need writing/composition skills!

I took Eng Comp I and got a B and Eng II with a A during the summer. i am sure that you will have no problem I am now taking psy. and I think that its relatively easy just read everything twice!

Christin, you'll do just fine!! I started back at school after 10 years of being out. I was nervous, but once I got back into the swing of things, all was good!! I love being in school and learning more!! You will be just fine and you will do great!! It is so not like high-school!! Not by a long-shot!!

Specializes in none yet, but I'm VERY excited!.

See if the instructor will review your papers before you turn them in. I survived English by taking my papers to the instructor several times before turning them in. I though they would view that as cheating, but I pointed out that I wanted to learn how to write better and that each essay was a learning experience not a test. They appreciated that and I was guaranteed an A on every paper because they were essentially graded with suggestions multiple times before they were turned in.

Also, lot of prof face time with a genuine effort at improving skills goes a long way to encourage the prof to help with your grade.

Thank you so much guys for your support! I've actually been in school a month now and am doing wayyyyyy better in english than I thought I would. I've turned in 2 papers with another one due tonight. I've made an A & a B+, so I'll take that, considering how bad I thought I was going to do. My secret wepons are my best friend, and my mom. They are both really good at english, and my best friend is a teacher, and has always wanted to be a writer (I think she will go back soon). Anyway so they both have tons of english experience. They both proof read my papers, and what one dosen't find the other one does. My paper that I got a B+ on, only my mom proof read, b/c Amie and I were busy that week, so I thought we didn't need to get together. Anyway sorry for rambeling, I just wanted to say thanks.
