Nursing License Question

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

i'm weighing all of my options for schooling and obtaining a nursing license. I'm not currently living in the state that I want to use my license or live long-term. I was wondering if I attend school in one state, can I take the NCLEX in a different state to be licensed there when I move there? Or is the process to get a license in a new state difficult/require more exams?

You can take the NCLEX in the state you currently live in. When you move, you apply for a "license by endorsement" in the new state.

If you want to move to a different state immediately after finishing nursing school then you just apply to the state that you want to move to. When you get approved, if you are still living in state A, then you can take the NCLEX in state A and still be granted a license in state B because the NCLEX is a national exam and not a state exam.

If you plan to stay in State A a little while after graduating and working there then you would apply for licensure in state A, work there for how ever long you want to, and then endorse to state B.
