Not sure which route to take...

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hi, dear allnurses!

I have a dilemma: I already have a bachelor's so I will, of course, be applying to an accelerated BSN. I also live in NYC, so all available accelerated BSN programs are both very competitive and, need I say, expensive. With this comes another thought, is it possible for me to go to a regular 4 year BSN program. But this si what I think, since I am completing my pre-reqs right now, can I just join a BSN program on year 3 through year 4?

I know I may sound confusing, but at this point I am trying to exhaust all of my options. I did consider Columbia and NYU but even with their institution based aid, I will have to pay over $50000!

Also, if anyone knows of any NYC affordable schools that offer accelerated BSN, I would be very much thankful!

Thank you!

I was in the same situation as you and thought for sure I'd go for the ABSN. I was accepted but then realized that $70K for bachelor's degree was crazy! So now I am in a traditional BSN program at a state university. I am considered a junior and in fact, all of us Level 1 students are. Even if you enroll at my university as a freshman you cannot enter the nursing program until your junior year. My class has "native" students (those who enrolled as freshman and just now got into the nursing program), transfer students who spent a couple of years at a community college, and several like me, who already hold bachelor's degrees. I recommend a traditional BSN program if your ABSN options are crazy expensive.

Hi, MyAimIsTrue,

Thank you for your advice! I am over a year from applying so I still have time to research more on the logistics of applying to traditional BSN programs. I will make sure to have as many schools to apply to as possible.
