Northeastern direct entry hybrid fall 2014!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello everyone!

A couple weeks ago I received a formal acceptance letter into Northeastern's direct entry hybrid program that starts this Fall 2014. Is anyone else going to NEU as well? I am hoping we can all gather together, create a fb group or get a conversation going because I will be moving from California so I'm VERY scared but also excited at the same time!

I am feeling a bit confused after I made a deposit, mainly with applying for classes and figuring out everything else in between (do we find housing in Burlington or Boston? Will we get any more additional information about the program?) If anyone can contribute to this thread with any info, it would be MUCH appreciated!! Also, I would like to room with someone else who is in the same program as me! Congratulations to everyone who was accepted!! :)

Hello! I'll be in this program too. To my knowledge, the program's labs will be in Boston while the exams will be on the Burlington campus. The clinicals are in the Boston area, but can be out into the Metrowest area, about 30-45 minutes from Boston. There are some Northeastern direct entry students doing clinicals at the hospital I'm working at right now in Natick. In terms of housing, Boston will be more expensive but there's more to do there. I've never actually been to Burlington but I'm going to the open house on June 7. Getting excited!!

Hi,

Have you started? How is it going? What is the schedule like?

For the first semester, we have clinical one day a week, lab one day a week, and a test usually every week. With that being said, there is a good deal of work that you need to do at home. But it's completely doable.

Thanks for the info. What times do they schedule the clinicals, labs, tests. etc. I am trying to get a feel of the schedule. I have two small children and am currently working full time.

Clinicals can be 7am-1pm or 1pm-7pm. Mine are Thursdays this semester, but I hear they can be any day except Sunday. Lab for me is 930-1230 on Fridays. Tests are Tuesday at 9 am, we get an hour to finish. If you ever want to see your kids you won't be able to work full time for sure. I know some people who are working 32 hours but they don't have kids. I have a one year old and work per diem (I've done two shifts the whole semester...). I hear after first semester the load lightens a bit, but then you have an extra clinical so you have school commitments four days a week second semester.

Thank you for the information. I find it hard to connect with anyone at NU to get the information I am looking for. As far as online classes for the first semester, how did you dedicate your time to each class? Did you go online everyday?

Yes I definitely went online every day. Time dedicated varies between the classes and each week. Some weeks I felt like I was just constantly studying and doing work, and other weeks I felt like I had very little that I needed to do that week. For most of the classes I've been doing the reading and homework assignments but not really watching the online lectures they offer, but for the interventions (like nursing basics) class I've just been watching the lectures because they are fantastic. Really it depends how you learn. I learn a lot better by reading than by lecture because I just stop paying attention haha. It's a very self-motivated program so you need to know a lot about your learning style and how to schedule your time. Personally, I write down everything that is due for the week the Friday before and plan out what I will do each day. Organization and planning is everything.

Do the professors let you know what the weekly tests are on?

Hi,

Are you in the accelerated BSN program? I just got accepted into the Spring 2015 cohort and am trying to find out more information. It's been hard to connect with people at the school who have information on what to expect and I'm getting really nervous about that.
