Microbiology-Pre-nursing student HELP

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello I am a pre-nursing student and I am becoming very discouraged. In the past my grades have all been A's and B's and now I am having a hard time with Micro 20 I do not know what I am doing wrong. Please is there any advice that can be given, study strategies, anything that will help me raise my poor grade. I only have a few weeks left and I need to do well on the last test, final, and disease summaries... Please HELP :)

Good day:

I would still try to meet with her, and ask her direct questions including how to do better, source of the powerpoints, etc. Based on how you share you are doing; a compressed summer class would be pushing it.

Thank you.

Im in the same situation. i want to be a nurse but this subject is so hard for that i feel like crying. i even asked my teacher for help and he says go the book but the book was not even a requirement. i left feeling really bad but i decided im not going to give up. I was wondering if there were any study guide or websites i could go to and study. also if anyone has any information on how to study and what i can do to better in the class. at least to sum up what microbiology is about to start. please help me!!

Good day, astate2009:

Even if the book is not required, show initiative and get the book. Since details matter, what specific questions did you ask your professor?

Thank you.

I definitely agree with previous posters, having a voice recorder is helpful. It helps you fill in gaps of your class notes. Sometimes you write down confusing or wrong bits of stuff during class. For micro there is so much to read and know about you must be reading almost daily if you have a book. If study guides are given you should go through it and answer questions while you are reading. If you start getting confused anywhere ask your professor for help asap do not wait it out. Studying everyday will be helpful especially and also important since it sounds like you're taking it in the summer. I took micro during the summer too it was fast paced since the semester was cut in half. They cover about 2 chapters a day in lecture, so you must be also on schedule or slightly beyond that. When studying for an exam I referred to the book, then the professors powerpoints, and my notes. Keep in mind that while this is all happening I also referrered to the provided study guide questions. Does the prof post stuff on the blackboard or website they use? Those handouts should have been looked at beforehand.

Good luck on your final

I would say micro isn't easy nor is it truly difficult. I did not score A's on every single test( my first was a B ish or so). I think the last test was my worst scored test in the whole smester since there was so many different diseases and whatnot to cover. The test can get tricky because of the way the answer is worded. One choice sounds good but the other doesn't seem juicy. The sounding good choices can maybe lead you astray. Perhaps it's the little details in the answer that sets one choice from another. I remember being tripped up on a few questions over some details. You try to ask yourself why this choice is wrong and maybe that will lead you to the correct answer.
