I have 2 questions!!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

My first question is: I'm applying to 4 BSN programs and the ADN program at my community college. Well at one of the BSN programs that I'm applying to, their application deadline is February 1st of 2013. Well I wasn't going to apply until December of this year. I'm going to wait until December because 3 of 5 sciences have to be completed at the time of application. So far I've only taken 2 sciences (A&P 1 and Biology) and I don't take my 3rd science until this fall which is why I have to wait until December until I've completed my 3rd science. I know that for many BSN programs, many applicants apply during the beginning of their sophmore year. Since I'm applying at the later part of my sophmore year, does this affect my chances of getting in? I know that many people will have applied in August, September, October, and November so will my application be in vain since I won't be applying til December 15th? (That's when the fall semester is completely over)

My second question is can you get accepted into nursing school with a 3.3 GPA? I just completed my freshman year and I start my sophmore year in the fall. I have a 3.3 because I received a C (my very first) in English Comp 2 this past semester. At every nursing school in my state, you have to have 5 sciences in order to get in: General Chemistry, Microbiology, A&P 1, A&P 2, and General Biology. I received an A in A&P 1 and the lab and a B out of General Bio and an A out of the lab. I have A's and B's in everything else so far. Anyways, in my state, 350 people apply to nursing school and only 140 get accepted at most BSN programs. I'm just really nervous. You also have to have at least a 21 overall composite ACT score in order to get accepted. That's exactly what I have. A 21. I've taken it twice and received a 21 both times. Should I take it again? I'm sorry that I'm asking all these questions it's just that nursing applications at one of the BSN programs become available in July and it's May now. I'm just frantic and really want to get into at least one of the nursing programs that I apply to. Thanks for taking the time to even read this.

1. How long you've been in college shouldnt directly affect your chances at admissions. Indirectly, you could have been there longer because of D's or W's.

2. You can get in with a 3.3. It depends on the competition at the schools you've applied to. The essay is an important factor in decisions, so having one that stands out is important. Depending on the school, other factors such as work experience and volunteer work may have weight in decisions.

I believe you can! It matters on the schools you apply too. Also why dont you take a science over the summer? Then you can apply earlier and raise your GPA Good luck to you!!!

I can't afford to take a science over the summer.
