I hate anatomy and physiology

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I am a pre-nursing student at a university, and I absolutely hate it. I have never disliked a class so much before, which is worrisome. I am in the Honors Program and have always gotten A's no problem throughout high school and during my time so far in college. Calculus was a breeze for me compared to this. I'm not sure what I hate about it, I'm used to taking classes with lots of memorization, but I think the hands on experience of identifying the parts on models is what I really dislike. I'm starting to think I picked a major that does not play upon my strengths, as I am very good at math and english. However, I am very drawn to the field of nursing because I want to help people and there seem to be endless opportunities. Do you think this is a warning sign that nursing is not for me?

Nursing is pretty heavy in A&P. Id say complete the course and take it again to ensure you understand the concepts. I know a few students that have taken it up to 3 times

It's a lot at first. I too did not like it at first. However as my anatomy and physiology professor who is a doctor in neuroscience said said, all the memorizing believe it or not is forming pathways in your brain that are creating a foundation. Now in ap 2 I get it. All the memorization is being built upon. Learn it, memorize it and soon you will apply it.

I agree with nursingstudentjess. It is about concepts and understanding. Without really having a strong grasp on anatomy and physiology one will not be able to diagnose. Personally, I feel having an understanding of A&P is exciting.

I would say maybe its boring just memorizing a skeletal model and identifying the bones, but try to make it challenging and fun. Eventually, it will be very useful to you if you continue.

I love to learn new things about body parts I think it's exciting lol I'm taking A&P this summer & I can't wait! I wasted about 5 years going to school for criminal justice to realize that wasn't for me! Now look at me now I'm going back to be a nurse I love to help people

I am sorry to hear that you hate the class. It really is the basic foundation of nursing care. I am in my 2nd semester of nursing school and can say that if i hadn't really understood the concepts of A&P 1 and 2, I would be more lost than I am already now! haha. Nursing is a lot of applying these body systems with medicines, interventions and being able to distinguish between a healthy and unhealthy individual. If you don't feel comfortable with the information there is NO SHAME in retaking the two classes. I retook BOTH classes prior to nursing school even after I got in the program just to have the refresher. I made an A both times in A&P 1 and a C the first time in A&P2 and retook the second one last summer before nursing school started just to make sure I had a basic foundation. It really helped. Good luck!
