I don't understand how to read the periodic table....
- 0Jan 21, '13 by Compassion_xIf you're in nursing you'll need a chemistry course more than likely. If you take an intro or basic class they'll usually spend plenty of time explaining it. If you're in a chem class now and don't understand it, ask your instructor for clarification. You can use links like the PP provided as well.

The periods are horizontal...1-7
The groups are vertical...same family...similar properties...
first 2 groups and last 6 are the representative elements.
the main ones
group one is the alkali metals
group 2 are the alkaline earth metals...
7a are halogens
8a Nobel gases quite unreactive and seldom found with other elements
Metaloids along heavy line similar properties of metals and non metals. non metals are right of that. (yellow area)
number of protons is the number on the top...mass is the number on the bottom...subtract those to get # of neutrons
