How to prepare yourself for school??

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Hello Everyone!

I am writing this thread because I start school late September for LPN at Lincoln Tech. I am just asking for some tips and pointers on how to prepare myself for school. I am going full time. It has been a while since I have been in school and nursing school is even harder. If anyone has any tips please let me know.

Thank you! :D

STAY ORGANIZED! I've been out of school for two years, [not very long, but still a gap]--just went back this past summer--and the thing I found that helped me best re-adjust to school was organization. However you choose to do it, it will definitely help with stress when you're bogged down with tests and finals for multiple subjects.

Also, review your notes after every class. I re-write mine sometimes. It makes for easier studying at the end of the semester when you've forgotten what all the abbreviations mean in Chapter 1...

Hope this helps!

Thank you! 2 years is still a gap. But organization is def key! I will def do everything I can for that! I have some supplies listed for myself to stay organized also. Rewritting notes is a great tip! Thank you again!

Organization! This is coming from a student who was never good at organizing (when it came to high school, especially!) But with a little preparation and (a few) years to grow older and get my priorities straight...I've been able to pull it off. I've also been out of a classroom for almost 6 years - now going back was making me feel a bit on anxiety pointing towards how I was going to adapt...but all went well, and organization is one of the best things to have! You'll have a lot of papers/notes and other things of those natures to keep up with and utilize. I practiced organization a couple of months before I started school...now I feel avid about making sure my binders for classes are up to par and no trash builds up, etc.

Organization...and don't over-analyze what may happen or take place. That was one of my biggest mistakes! I worried too much about "what if"s and gave myself unneeded stress before school...when it turned out to be nothing like I felt stressed about...so much better than high school!

Good luck and have fun! :)

Don't get too overwelmed, stay organized and have confidence, study hard and have fun!! :)

What are the guidelines for the white sneakers? Do they have to be all white??

I am looking into the nike shox, but to get 100% white including the swoosh, you have to order them. I know lady foot locker has the white ones but not all white.

I echo what everyone else has said re: organization. Review is definitely important. This is my second run at school and the first time, I was fresh out of high school and my brain seemed to absorb information a lot more easily! Now, I find that I need to quiz myself and do more review to get the material to sink in.

Be gentle to yourself. If you "mess up" a quiz or test, just think about what went wrong and adjust accordingly. This is what learning is about!

Stay on schedule and don't let yourself fall behind. That will only lead to more anxiety, which will make it more difficult to focus on the material and really learn it.

Best of luck! :)

Thank you Courtney. I will take that into consideration as well! I am very organized so I don't think I will have a hard time. I know that I have to just stay on top of all my work. I like to go ahead sometimes but I have heard that is a bad idea. So if I do bad on a test, I will think about what went wrong instead of beating myself up over it. :)
