How long were your pre-reqs?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I have two years of pre-reqs before entering a two year nursing program. I'll come out of it with two Associate Degrees. Were everyone else's pre-reqs that long? It's like 57 units you have to complete and then if I pick up another class I will receive two degrees.

Started Fall 2012 will be done Summer 2014. Hopefully to start nursing school Fall '14.

The program that I am in requires that all students complete the prerequisites, corequisites, and all other graduation requirements for the college before applying to the ADN program. Basically, what they want you to do is to essentially be ready to graduate with the exception of the nursing courses so that when you complete the program, you graduate with your degree. This means that you will essentially spend 2 years (or more) getting all of your educational requirements completed prior to beginning the nursing program.

In effect, this means that your two-year ADN degree is in reality more like a four-year degree.

Exactly! That's exactly how mine is too.

Specializes in burn ICU, SICU, ER, Trauma Rapid Response.

I don't understand why one would choose to attend such a school? Is is cause it is close to your home?

Specializes in CRNA.

The Paramedic to RN bridge that I am pursing requires you to have 9 prerequisites which are 27 hours plus a microcomputer applications class that is 3 hours. I will have 33 hours in 3 semesters, but I have 12 hours of the degree already finished from my first trip through college. When I get accepted to the program, which is 1 year, I will only have nursing classes left for my ADN. I will be taking a class each semester of nursing school towards my BSN though.
